Olympic & Paralympic 2012 - Living the Olympic & Paralympic values

2012 Ready

Getting Ready for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Greenwich Community College is proactive in promoting the Olympic and Paralympic values in the college and wider community. We work closely with the colleges in the other host borough’s to ensure that the fantastic opportunities the Games will bring to the area will form a legacy for our learners.

Below are some of the projects we are involved in:

Legacy Champions

Each of the Host Borough Colleges recruit 10 Legacy Champions each year to work on projects that will benefit fellow learners and the wider community. The Legacy Champions project was awarded the Inspire Mark in 2009.

  • The 2010 Legacy Champions focussed on the legacy of the Olympic Park in Stratford and worked with the Olympic Park Legacy Company as part of their consultation process.
  • The 2011 Legacy Champions are working with Envision and EDf Energy on a sustainability project which will have an impact on the local community.

Bridging The Gap

Inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Bridging the Gap (BtG) will help deliver a successful Games in 2012 and provide students with a springboard for future careers in the security industry, the uniformed services and armed forces.

We have been delivering Bridging the Gap courses as part of our Public Services and Sport and Leisure courses and individually to our students and local residents. Many of them will now receive interviews to work at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
