BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in business provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the business sector. The course provides progression from the BTEC Level 4 HNC.
The qualification prepares learners for employment in the business sector and will be suitable for learners who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work.
This is a level 5 course, which is equivalent to the second year of a Business Degree programme at university.
The awarding body of the HND course is Edexcel. The qualification is recognised by the industry as fit for purpose as a high level vocational and work related Business qualification, as approved by the Sector Skills council.
What do I need to get on this course?
You need to meet the following qualification requirements to be accepted on the course:
- Have successfully completed all the 8 units of BTEC HNC in Business programme, including the 4 mandatory core units (You have achieved a minimum of 120 credits, out of which 60 credits were achieved from 4 mandatory units).
How will I be assessed?
Assessment are carried out through internally assessed coursework. The tutors assess learners� coursework against published learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
There are a total 8 of units in BTEC Level 5 HND in Business programme.

- Unit 5: Aspects of Contract and Negligence for Business
- Unit 6: Business Decision Making
- Unit 7: Business Strategy
- Unit 8: Research Project
- Unit 11: Financial Systems and Auditing
- Unit 14: Working with and Leading people
- Unit 20: Sales Planning and Operation
- Unit 24: Employee Relations
The college selects the optional units based on the current demand of the industry and sector trend. Therefore, some of the optional units may change to reflect the change in trend and demand.
Where does it lead?
BTEC HND in Business is a level 5 vocational qualification in its own right, and is widely recognised in the industry as a high level vocational and work related qualification. The qualification prepares learners for employment in the business sector.
Learners studying the BTEC Level 5 HND may apply to the final year of a degree programme in Business subjects.
BTEC HND in Business also offers a progression route to the professional qualifications offered by various professional bodies in the Business sector (e.g. ACCA)
