Nikki had emailed recently-elected US president Barack Obama and requested a visit. GCC were pleased to host the hour-long talk, which ran through the build up to President Barack’s Success and looked at his present tasks and future ambitions.

As the first mixed race president he is also the first president to use a Blackberry. Mark Lanning also told of how moving from country to country meant that Obama came to know a lot of people and realise the world is huge.

So what had helped him become president? 4 times the amount of funds in comparison to his competitors, using social media and he attracted more volunteers to help in his campaign. Economic situations such as the slowdown in the economy last September also helped him to a landslide victory in elections the following month.

And the President’s main aims? Get the economy going, using a $787 billion Economic Stimulus Package and improve the US infrastructure – health, medical research and roads. One important measure has been to develop accountability – The public can see where their money is being spent by visiting www.recovery.gov.

A Big thanks to GCC’s Nikki Raza who organised the talk, from which many other students have benefited. For more information on The USA and President Barack Obama visit www.whitehouse.gov.
