Students celebrate their cultural diversity at the 2nd Greenwich Cultural Celebration on 16 December 2010.

A range of stalls were set up for students to visit as well as dressing up in traditional clothes and tasting a variety of foods, a treat for anyone’s palette! Each stall represented a country in the world, from Afghanistan to Tanzania, Angola to Romania and all points in between. ESOL students decorated their stands with traditional clothing, ornaments, posters etc. Students and staff had a chance to watch traditional Thai fruit carving and take part in singing and drumming.
Students studying the BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 Fashion organised a Fashion Show to show off their Culture Shock – Roman Britain range of clothing they had been working on. Most of the designs were based on the Roman toga and were developed by draping fabric on the mannequin with added textile techniques and embellishment to produce a wide range of design ideas. They were shown in a fashion show, modelled by them and students from other fashion courses.
The Student Union invited Asafo Gyata to set up a martial arts and drumming workshop. Student and staff were encouraged to dance to traditional African drumming.

Eye4Change showcased work by GCC students who had prepared a project around personal identity during a six week enrichment programme. The London DJ and MC Academy Ltd were also invited to support the event by providing a range of music to compliment the afternoon.

The Greenwich Cultural Celebration was an excellent opportunity for students and staff to showcase aspects of their cultures, explore their heritage with others; to value what we have in common and share our different backgrounds. Click to view the day in action
