Five unemployed Greenwich residents on a Jobcentre Plus course run by the London Gaming College have secured jobs in the newly opened Aspers Casino at Westfield Stratford City.

The successful candidates were amongst thirty students who have recently completed a seven week intensive programme held at the colleges casino based at Charlton Athletic.

Speaking at an award ceremony to present qualifications to the successful croupiers, Richard Smith General Manager from Aspers Casino was impressed with calibre of training and the success of the programme;

“ Aspers Westfield Stratford City are delighted with the successful graduation of 30 Trainee Croupiers, from our first training academy held in partnership with London Gaming College, for what will be the largest casino in the UK when it opens its doors on 1 December 2011. The success of this process has ensured that our next training academy for 36 Trainee Croupiers has already been booked with London Gaming College.”

During the training programme, students learnt how to deal the games to the standard required to work in a British Casino. They were also taught the main games such as Roulette, Blackjack and Poker.

Gary Chin, Principal of Greenwich Community College, who run the London Gaming College is pleased that the college’s partnership with Jobcentre Plus is resulting in securing jobs for Greenwich residents:

“The college’s role in the community is to ensure we train local residents to the level required to find employment with prestigious employers. Our partnership with Jobcentre Plus and Aspers is a fantastic example of Further Education at work. I would like to wish all the successful students good luck with their new career.”

Alan Penny, Head of London Gaming College is looking forward to continued training and support to the largest casino in the UK:

“London Gaming College is delighted to assist Aspers with its recruitment and Training for its new casino in Stratford and we look forward to working in partnership with Aspers in the future.”

Tina Power from Greenwich was one of the successful students on the level two diploma in Gambling operations at the London Gaming College; She said:
“All the staff were friendly and patient with all the students, It was very challenging mentally and pushed us to our limits. I would recommend the course to absolutely anyone, even those that feel they are not that good with maths because the course is structured is such a way that you will pick things up fairly quickly. The course has sent me onto a whole new career path with so much room to improve in what I do, so I can always move forward and up the ladder within the casino industry. I have the option to maybe travel abroad and live and work with this career or even work on cruise ships and see the world”
