The World Cup Soccer Six tournament kicked off in the afternoon of the 25th June where GCC, Lewisham College, New Vic (Newham Sixth Form College), Vinvolved, Christ the King Sixth Form College and Greenwich Community Games played friendly matches against each other.
The tournament took place at Long Lane Junior Football Club. The World Cup and the 2012 Olympic & Paralympic games was promoted throughout with all teams showing Excellence, Friendship & Respect to all match officials and competing teams. Each college represented a country which gave a true feeling of the world cup atmosphere.
Various information stands were set up such as CHECKURSELF who were raising awareness about Chlamydia testing and treatments, Vinvolved promoted its volunteering opportunities for 16-25 year olds in England. British DJ & MC Academy were also invited to add to the fun packed day by giving students a chance to mix music and listen to their favourite tracks.
GCC midfield Altin Ruci who studies ICT Systems Support said;...The tournament was excellent because I got the chance to represent Greenwich Community College for the last time before I head to University this year. I would recommend students who enrol this year to join the college football team and represent the college in various football tournaments around London.
Students ended this year with a fun packed day where they let off their post-exam steam on the field, whilst bringing colleges together.
Final Score: Argentina (Lewisham College) 1 v Ghana (New Vic 6th form) 0
