On Monday 23rd April one million copies of certain novels were given away to members of the general public in the whole of the UK for free.

Here at the college Andy Smith, Karen Oliver (LRC) and I have were chosen by World Book Night to distribute free books so we gave out a total of 72 copies of Andrea Levy’s “Small Island,” Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” and “The Road” by Cormac McCarthy to GCC students for free.

They were distributed in the LRC and were all gone within the first 15 minutes! Students were really excited to receive free copies of these novels.

The aim of World Book Night is to introduce more people to the joy of reading and the event also took place in Ireland, Germany and the USA on the same day.
