Thousands of adult students are getting ready for a new term’s courses at venues across the borough.
Greenwich Council and Greenwich Community College are working in partnership with voluntary groups and other agencies to promote a wide-ranging programme of courses that aim to encourage post-school learners of all ages.
The courses will be held at locations around the borough – and there is something for everyone.
The emphasis this year is very much on helping people get back into work, and developing their skills and knowledge.
Apart from courses leading to formal qualifications in GCSEs and A-levels, business and trades, there is also a vast choice of leisure interests.
These range from arts and crafts, digital photography and performing arts such as dance and acting, to the history of Royal Greenwich, languages, and D-I-Y.
The council has also teamed up other partners to put together a wide package of different learning opportunities.
You can also learn how to become a Greenwich Community Learning Champion at the Volunteer Centre, Greenwich, so you can encourage others to take up learning opportunities.
Cllr Denise Hyland, Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for Regeneration, Enterprise and Skills, said, “Adult learning really can help you towards achieving your ambitions and making your hopes and dreams come true. The courses can provide you with the opportunities to gain new skills, experience and qualifications which in these difficult times could make all the difference to your quality of life and your employment prospects.”
Geoff Pine, Principal of Greenwich Community College, said, “Whether you want to progress your career with a qualification course or learn purely for pleasure, we aim to provide the right course for you in a friendly and supportive environment at convenient locations across the borough”
It is now easier for people to enrol on many courses, which can be done online. Fees have been frozen for people less able to afford them, and courses that help people gain basic or work-related skills are usually free.
