Another fantastic year at GCC as A Level results are published.
30% of A level students achieved grades between A*and B bringing the overall pass rate to 90%. Amongst those grades were a number of the newly introduced A* [star] grades. The top performing subjects at A level included Chemistry, Accounting, Law, Maths, Economics, History and Languages.
Places booked at University.
Each year brings mixed emotions and tense moments as the envelopes are ripped open. Aida Zorba, was one of those who was relieved to have achieved two A’s; the grades needed to secure her place on an English & American Literature Degree at Goldsmiths University. She said “I feel incredible, I never thought it would happen”
Bright star Hiren Gohil 18 year old, is included in the first cohort to gain an A* [star] grade introduced this year for the first time. In addition he achieved one A and two B’s at A2 level and is currently securing his place at Cass Business University for entry in September 2011. Out of those who sat the full A Level exams at Greenwich Community College 100% passed in many subjects – Economics, French, Maths, German, History, Media Studies, Sociology and Spanish.
Another of the many students going onto study at University is 20 year old Cassie Herald -Ellis, who’s achieved two A’s in English and Government & Politics. Her results will take her to Bristol University to study a Social Policy Degree. Cassie who is currently in the Bolivian Jungle will receive the results via text.
Maintaining high standards.
Steve Whittingham, Director of Academic Programmes at Greenwich Community College is proud of our increase in results at full A Level, with even higher grades than last year and said “We are thrilled that this year’s A Level results with 100% pass rates in Economics, French, Maths, German, History, Media Studies, Sociology and Spanish included A* [star] grades. Undoubtedly, this is down to the tremendous hard work of our students principally but also because of the superb teaching and commitment of the staff who maintain our high standards. I really want to congratulate everybody for these magnificent results. Never believe that A Levels are getting easier – it is students who are working harder and teachers who believe in them!”
