Appetising course for food lovers launches 'Gift Experiences'

Published 15th November 2011

Greenwich Community College has just launched A ‘Real’ Taste of Food Writing day courses which will take place in the private dining room at Guy Awford at The Guildford Arms in Greenwich and include a three course lunch, a tour of the kitchens and a questions and answer session with the acclaimed local chef and restaurateur.

The courses will be led by journalist and Guild of Food Writers member, Nikki Spencer, who started a food writing evening class at the college in the summer and launches this years range of ‘Gift Experiences’.

“My food writing evening class has been very popular, especially with people who have just started a food blog or are thinking of starting a blog”, explains Nikki, “but the one frustrating thing has been spending all our time talking about food and describing food but not actually eating any!”

“One week Guy kindly agreed to be interviewed by the students but the restaurant was so busy he couldn’t get away. That got me thinking that maybe we should bring the course to him for a day.”

“I think it will work brilliantly as people get to eat an excellent lunch, have a go at describing it and also interview the chef that cooked it. It is a unique experience.”

Some chefs might find it daunting to have their cooking scrutinised by a room full of people but Guy Awford, whose sister restaurant Inside was voted Best Modern British Restaurants under £50 in Harden’s London Restaurant Guide 2012 says he is looking forward to it.

“I think it’s going to be a very interesting experience. People get to see behind the scenes and also quiz me about what I do. I also write my own blog so I will talk a bit about that too”, he adds.

Greenwich Community College already offer Beer Master Classes, run in conjunction with Meantime Brewery, which are much in demand as presents for birthdays and Christmas and they are hoping their A ‘Real’ Taste of Food Writing days will be equally as popular.

“I think this will make a lovely and original present for anyone who is interested in food”, says Rachel Wiltshire of Greenwich Community College.

“No previous experience of food writing is required. Just a love of food!” she adds.

A Real Taste of Food Writing takes place on Friday February 24th 2012 & Fri June 15th 2012. Classes cost £65 inclusive of food and drink.
