ITQ is an NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) in information technology. It is ready to use and can be integrated with other existing qualifications. Offered at levels 1, 2 and 3, the ITQ qualification demonstrates staff competence in the use of IT in the workplace.
In September 2006 there were already 15,000 people in more than 800 companies, including local authorities, using the ITQ. More than 1000 learning centres are currently delivering ITQ to in the region of 30,000 registered learners.
There are two methods of studying to obtain your ITQ qualification:
The ‘Fast-Track’ route enables you to minimise the duration of your ITQ achievement by submitting completed work which satisfies your area criteria and then you complete an online test to backup your knowledge. The submitted work only needs to show a competence of the program at hand, but you must show a selection of your skills.
The ‘Assessed Route’ requires learners to submit each individual completed tasks/ documents to an assessor who then liaises with you, advising you on your learning strategies. Once your assessed work is returned, you have the option to amend any work if necessary, or submit a new document which is evident of the skills required (if missing in the first instance) as per direction of your assessor
ITQ allows you to learn and demonstrate the skills you need. Assessment takes place naturally and is based on tasks you accomplish at work to improve your efficiency. Timescales are very flexible to meet the needs of learners and depend on the prior knowledge level of learners. Whilst expert users can achieve an ITQ within a week, most users take 10 to 30 hours to complete their ITQ qualification.
For unemployed learners, there may be an opportunity to participate in the on-house Work Placement Scheme offered through Greenwich Community College. Additionally, skills developed during the job-search process can be used – such as searching for jobs, creating your CV and skills development – can attribute to your ITQ. This is subject to an aptitude test and interview in the e-Skills Centre.
