Applying for Childcare

About childcare
A full-time nursery with a maximum of 22 places is run by qualified staff is available for students who are studying on a course with us. There may limited discretionary funds available for registered childminders, however funding for childcare places not directly provided by the College will not be guaranteed.

Application criteria

  • You must be enrolled on a course at Greenwich Community College.
  • Your child must be over 30 months (2½ years).
  • Priority for childcare funding will be given to students who have not had childcare funding in previous years.
  • We are only able to consider one child per student.
  • To ensure fair distribution of places we allocate childcare places by subject area.

If you meet the criteria for a place you will be invited in for an interview. Once we have completed all the interviews we will select who has a place & inform you. If you are allocated a place in the Nursery you will be given a date to attend an induction at the nursery. We do not fund after school clubs, breakfast clubs or for private nurseries.

If you do not get a place you will remain on the waiting list and may be offered a place at a later date if a student withdraws or their place for childcare is withdrawn due to non attendance or other reason.

Keeping your place
To ensure you keep your childcare place and are considered for more childcare next year (eg if your course is over more than one year), you must:

  • attend all classes regularly and punctually
  • inform us in the morning if you cannot bring your child to the Nursery for whatever reasons (eg if you or your child are unwell) – failure to notify may incur a charge
  • remain in college while your child is being cared for by us, except at lunch breaks
  • pay your fees promptly and regularly
  • abide by the College codes of conduct regarding behaviour

I wish you success in your application and in your studies.
